I'm not very good at the whole online thing. Like, any of it. This blog, my emails, keeping up with friends, etc. I think I barely made it alive in the one online class I ever took. You would think in this day and age the whole online thing would be easy, but for me- I just don't get attached to it the way other people do. On my phone, you've got a whole different story there, but on the actual computer where do more than just browse, I suck.

So it's been six months since I last wrote. But then I go and one day decide to read a bunch of friend's blogs and I realize how great it is to have a journal of your life and how fun it would be one day to go back and read mine. So I will once again attempt to keep doing this.

This year so far has been, well, I feel like it's just been. Most days are average. Some days are fantastic. And some days really suck. It's been a huge growing year for Cody and I as a couple I think. We're really starting to learn who we are as a couple. We've had our trials that were tough but in the end brought us much closer together and really taught us how to communicate with each other. We speak different "love languages," (I know, this sound so lame but really, it's like scripture for relationships. Everyone EVERYONE needs to read The 5 Love Languages with their significant other. Even if you think your relationship is perfect, this will teach you how to be better.) and slowly we are just figuring out how to speak each other's language.

Cody has been working hard in school. He's in law school but now he's also in business school. Sometimes I feel like we have both lost our minds to be able to even think about Cody doing a dual degree. Especially since the first year of law school, especially the first semester was pretty much hell for me. It was so hard to give Cody up for all that time. It was a huge learning experience for me. I like to think I'm doing better. But I know Cody is happy in school and he is enjoying it. Right now he is doing a paid internship for the summer at a law firm that represent HOA's. He really likes it. We also just found out that Cody is in the top 10% of his class and he made law review! Ya, I married an overachiever.

I (as in Heather, since I'm the only one that ever writes these posts..) have just been busy with work. I'm still working as a nurse on the maternity floor. The night shifts still kill me. But I still love what I do, so here I am. My most recent development is apparently I have high blood pressure. I'm only 24 years old and I am a normal weight for my age, I could probably work out more or eat a little healthier but it's not like I need to make major changes there. So who knows whats going on? I've had lots of tests done like blood work, ultrasounds on my heart, and CT scans of my abdomen and pelvis, but so far everything is normal. Other than the fact that my blood pressure is much higher than it should be. So for now I'm taking two blood pressure medications and checking my pressure each time I'm at work and hoping for the best. I just hope I don't have major problems when I want to become pregnant someday.

Cody and I just recently signed up to be dog hosts on DogVayCay.com. Basically, when people go on vacation and don't want to send their dog to a kennel, they pay us to watch their dog in our home instead. We did it with our two dogs when we went to Mexico last week and it was fantastic, and much cheaper than all of the kennels. So we are now hosting ourselves. We got our first doggie to watch today and it's been... interesting. He is a small mini schnauzer/poodle mix and he is TERRIFIED of everything. I don't know why his owners thought he would do well with our two big dogs. But it's okay, he is slowly adjusting. He's attached to my hip all day so I can protect him from the shadows in the corner though. It's a fun way to make a little extra money though.

Cody got a GoPro for his 26th birthday this year. Everyone needs to get one of these! The pictures they take are just incredible! I didn't take my big Nikon to Mexico because I didn't want to have to lug it around nor did I want it stolen so I was pretty set on having pretty generic pictures of our trip, but that GoPro proved me wrong! The pictures it takes are incredible! We definitely will have a lot of fun with this camera considering you can pretty much take it anywhere.

Okay, that's about all I got for a generalized update. Hopefully I can keep up with this thing a little more because I know I will enjoy it someday later on. My life is great. I LOVE my husband so much and I wish I could retire right now and spend every minute with him. Seriously, no sarcasm in that. But instead, I'll keep dreaming and enjoy him the small moments I do get him.

I am a registered nurse. It took a lot of time, ridiculous dedication to studying, brutal clinicals, too many tests, one massive test that pretty much took the life out of me (thanks, NCLEX), and constant prayers that I had done enough. Finally, everything settled into place and I became a working registered nurse. Sometimes I wonder why I ever made that decision.

Working on a postpartum floor has so many amazing experiences behind it. I love seeing the faces of brand new parents holding their baby for the first time. Helping mothers establish breast feeding is such a bonding experience that I get to be a part of that you feel connected to the mom's and the babies. Teaching a father to change a baby's diaper for the first time never gets old, especially as their little sons take the opportunity to pee on dad as soon as the diaper comes off. Watching parents handle their baby as if they were terrifed that the baby's tiny little arm was going to fall off the moment they touch them always makes me laugh a little inside. Seeing a baby chomp on a binky that is the size of their entire face doesn't get any cuter. Helping get that tiny baby into the car seat for the very first time while parents have no idea how to even buckle the baby in, sure that their baby shrunk ten sizes when compared to the huge carseat is always an adventure. Holding the camera and taking the first pictures of a completed family for the first time, you can feel the love radiating from that happy new family. And sending a newly created family unit on their way and out into the world for the first time together always feels like sending a part of your own family out into the world.

People say to me all the time, "Oh, I bet you just love your job. Spending the whole day with new babies, it doesn't get better than that! What a happy place to work!" And they are so right. It is the best job and most the time is such a happy place to be. But what most people don't realize is, sometimes I have the worst job. Sometimes I have days that are so bad that it makes me never want to come back. Days that when you go home, you have to cry all of your emotions out and struggle to get back into your normal life.

Working on a postpartum floor can have so many terrifying experiences behind it. Walking into a room with a woman who just started bleeding and going into very early preterm labor and realizing with her that the baby she has been carrying for 20 weeks was coming now and was not going to survive will stop your own heart. Running to a room where the mother called screaming that her baby isn't breathing and walking in to see a baby whose face is completely gray and is getting worse by the second will haunt you forever. Helping a postpartum mom up to the bathroom after delivery and having her loose so much blood that she passes out on the toilet, requiring three extra nurses to help carry her back to bed all while trying to keep the mother conscious isn't my ideal kind of work day. Checking to see how much a postpartum mother is bleeding and realizing that she is bleeding more and more as you push out blood clots the size of your arm and realizing she isn't going to stop bleeding until you do something quick will keep you terrified everytime you hear the word "hemorrhage". Being the person to tell new parents that instead of bringing their baby back from the nursery to feed, their baby was rushed to the ICU because he or she stopped breathing and now requires oxygen in order to breath proficiently makes you feel like the worst person they've met. And crying with a mother who just spent 12 hours in labor delivering a baby that made it to near full term but for some unsatifyingly unexplainable reason had to delivery a baby that had already passed away will make your heart sob every time you walk past that room for the rest of your career.

It feels as though these harder days have been the definition of my career as a nurse lately. As a nurse, I'm so much more emotionally involved with my patients than I was as a CNA. So when the hard times happen for me, it takes even longer to bounce back. Every situation listed above has happened to me in my short first year as an RN. Being a nurse makes you an emotional punching bag at times.

Sometimes there are days that you wonder why you ever signed up for this, but in reality, I wouldn't trade my job for the world. I would go through every experience I've had again and again and be happy with the same outcome, the same decisions, the same career. Those emotional moments may be hard to handle at times, but being the person there to comfort a total stranger during times of extreme heartbreak makes an instant lifelong friend. Sometimes I wonder if patients realize how much their nurses think of them and remember them. I wonder if they know how much they impact my everyday life. Choosing to be a nurse may have been one of the craziest decisions I ever made, but most definitely, it's been one of the best.

So next time you're a patient have a nurse that seems a little frazzled, maybe even a little distant or upset, try giving him or her a pass, try to remember that not all days as nurse are peaches and cream. Being a patient in the hospital can be emotional and hard, but so can days being the nurse in that same hospital.

Many blogs I read have done their little review of the year and I really enjoy reading them, so I'm going to give it a shot. This is 2013 for Cody and I and the things that were most important to us!

JANUARY:

Cody and I had been engaged for 3 months and were full speed ahead in planning our wedding. Heather moved into the apartment in Preston Hollow Apartments that we were going to live in after we were married. Heather also graduated as a Registered Nurse and was hired on the Maternity unit at IMC. Heather took her NCLEX on Jan. 31st and passed her first try! Cody was going to school at the University of Utah for his bachelors degree in hopes to go on to law school. He was starting applications for law schools all around the country.
FEBRUARY:

The month before the wedding! Heather was busy getting used to her new job and planning for the wedding and Cody was still working hard in school. This is the birthday month for our husky Koda! She turned two years old. Cody slowly started moving things into the apartment.
MARCH:

Cody and Heather got married! We were married in the Salt Lake Temple on March 7th, 2013 at 9:40 a.m. We had a lunch at Olive Garden and then a reception at Wheeler Farm that evening. For our honeymoon we went on a Carribean cruise for seven days and then stayed longer in Puerto Rico afterwards! We missed our cute vizsla's birthday while we were gone, Apollo turned one year old! Cody finished moving into the apartment and we got used to married life.

This is Heather's birthday month and she turned 23. We also bought a new king size memory foam bed and cute bedframe! Apollo likes to sleep on the bed with us and we were not having enough room! Cody also got rear ended by a Murray cop this month and it pretty much totaled his car so we traded it in and got a 2013 Volkswagon Jetta! JUNE:

Cody's birthday month and he turned 25! We also started an addicting habit of playing a lot of golf! We found a realtor we really like and spent ONE day looking at some houses until we found one we wanted to put on offer in on. Turns out seven other people wanted the same house and the owner lived out of state and was very difficult to get into contact with. Our realtors told us to hold tight while they worked hard for us.

JULY:

We walked the Murray 4th of July parade TWICE. Once because Heather's dad was a city council member and the second time because Heather's dad was also running for Mayor. We learned our realtors really did work their magic and our offer on the house was accepted! We bought our first home in Taylorsville, Utah. It has four bedrooms and two bathrooms, a garage, a small backyard, a large kitchen, and a beautiful fireplace. It's much nicer than we ever expected for our first home. We moved into the home in the middle of July. A week later, we went to Lake Tahoe for a family reunion with Heather's mother's side of the family for a week, but unfortunately Heather was sick a lot of the trip. We still had a ton of fun though!

NOVEMBER:

Heather convinced Cody to put the Christmas tree up this month and the house got decked out in Christmas decorations! We spent Thanksgiving running between both sides of our families and ate way too much food but had a lot of fun seeing everyone! Cody was working hard at school and was enjoying it. He decided he wanted to even further his career and decided he wanted to pursue a joint degree and apply to business school at the U also. He wrote a letter to the Dean of the business school giving an argument of why he shouldn't have to take the GMAT to apply to business school and the Dean accepted his arguement!

Cody was in crunch time for finals. He completed his first semester of law school! He is still waiting for grades to be posted. We spent a lot of time with family for Christmas and took advantage of Cody's winter break from school by going to they gym together a lot, laying around the house, and watching a ton of Breaking Bad. Cody is working on applications to business school and is getting ready to start his second semester of law school!

2013 could not have been a better year for Cody and I. My life has changed so drastically since last year and I am very lucky to be living the life I am living now. I'm so SO grateful for Cody and for the amazing husband he has been and continues to be. He is by far the best decision I made in all of 2013 and every year before that! 2014 has some huge shoes to fill because 2013 was sure the best year of my life! I will forever be grateful for this year and look forward to this next year with happiness and excitement for what's to come!

*Pictures to come*

Christmas this year was such a wonderful one! It was our first Christmas as a married couple! We had so much fun decorating our house, I was itching to get that Christmas tree up as soon as possible, but Cody didn't want it up too soon, so I talked him into allowing it to be put up the week of Thanksgiving.

Christmas Eve Cody and I went to the gym together in the morning. It's always a good way to start the day with a little run! Then that evening we went to my Grandpa Stam's house. It's been a tradition for so long, but this is only the second year without my Grandma. She passed away right before Christmas last year. My poor Grandpa still struggles with it daily and talks about her every time he talks to us. It makes you wonder if she knew how much her REALLY loved her, his love is so deep for her, it's touching. We spent the night there eating some good food, watching the great-grandchildren open gifts and my Aunt Renae read some Christmas stories. Then the adults all play the white elephant gift game where you can steal others gifts. We pick a letter each year and the gift has to start with that letter. Last year we decided to spell out my grandma's name over the years which is Muriel. So this year the letter was U. The gifts Cody and I took to the game were a University of Utah drawstring bag and and Uncle Si blanket (from Duck Dynasty, our favorite show!). The gifts we ended up leaving with were a small umbrella and the game Uno. Let's just say, the game didn't work out in our favor this year.

Next, I unfortunately had to work Christmas from 1am to 7am, so when I got home Christmas morning I had to sleep a little bit. I woke up around 11am to a happy and excited husband! We went down and spent the morning opening some gifts and playing with our new items. Somehow "Santa" even brought a few unexpected gifts for each of us, even though we both told Santa not to let that happen haha! Our dogs also had a TON of fun ripping wrapping paper off of some yummy smelling dog treats we got them.

My big present this year was I got a new camera (Nikon D3500) and I love it! Then Cody and I spent $10 at the dollar store on each other and we had so much fun! He got me a few little games, a lint brush for the dog hair, a cute vinyl quote for the wall, and many more fun little items! Then after we opened all our gifts, Cody found some more gifts "Santa" left, which was a book light I've been needing for a while, and an amazing electric blanket, which has already been used countless times since Christmas!

Cody's big present this year was a Bushnell range finder for golf. His dollar store gifts included some cologne, men's shampoo, leather cleaner for his car, air freshners, hot chocolate and a mug, an eye mask to sleep in, new pens, a tie, and a few other great things. In Cody's stocking was hiding a little Gamestop giftcard for a new video game. We also were lucky enough to received some shelving for our garage, a dutch cheese slicer, cute calendars, and tons more candy from our families...

That evening we went to Cody's Grandma and Grandpa Jowers house where we ate some dinner and opened some gifts from them. We had fun playing with cousins and chasing our neices around the house. Afterwards we went to Cody's sister Holly's new house to check it out for the first time, and it is beautiful!

We had such a great holiday season, I'm so grateful I have such an amazing family and in-law family. I couldn't ask for more. It was a perfect first Christmas being married to Cody and I look forward to many more years to come!

Today is Christmas Day! So I'm on blogger why you ask? I'm sitting here at work at 4am while my husband sleeps at home waiting for Santa to come. Crappy, but it's the life of a nurse.

Life at the Jenkins house has been quite busy lately. Work for me has been crazy, we never slow down. But I can't complain about it though because it's really fortune to be able to work so much when I'm the only one working for the time being. Cody has been so busy with school that it's just not possible for him to work right now. He just finished his very first semester of law school! He has to put a lot of work into finals and it seems like it just about killed him, but he made it through. And even more than that, he's decided to apply to the University of Utah's business school also and seek out a joint degree doing business and law together. So that adds on an extra year of schooling for him but has him finishing with two graduate degrees. So he will be even more busy than he already is, but I think it's going to be the best thing for him and his job opportunities.

Another thing Cody and I have been very into lately is going to the gym together. We both got gym passess to the Murray Rec Center and have started trying to go as much as possible. I can't believe how hard it was at first and how much easier it is already getting. I miss how in shape I used to be in high school when I was on the drill team. When I go to the gym I like to start with running, which is getting easier now but was terrible to start out. After I go into the weight room with Cody. If you know me, the weight room always has been a scary place for me. I don't know what to do, can't do very much, and feel completely out of place in every way. But Cody has been so excited to help me and has been great about getting me started. Now I can spend most of my gym time in there and look like I may know how to use a few pieces of equipment or weights. But MAN, I am so sore!! It never ends. My body is screaming after every single time I go. But it feels good. I never should have stopped working out in the first place.

I've been a nurse for a year come January. That is so crazy! Time flies so fast! I never thought I would be a long time post partum nurse personally, but I can't believe how much I really do love my job. I still hate the night shifts with a passion, but I love what I do and I love the people I work with. It's been such a great first year as a nurse. I've had so many great days and many very scary ones. But thanks to those very scary days, I feel so confident in my skills and everything I do in my job. Put me on a med/surg floor, you might have a different story, but post partum and babies- I feel great! I'm so lucky to have the job I have, I would never give it up for anything else!

Well, I'll be posting better pictures soon because there is a beautiful new camera sitting under the Christmas tree for me at home right now! I hope everyone has a great Christmas!

Well, once again it's been a while since I've posted. Really, I just hated the way the blog looked and so I didn't want to see it at all. So I apologize for constantly changing the layout, but I think I'm satisfied for a little while now. Life has been one busy whirlwind lately. I'm pretty sure I still have a husband somewhere but I see him less now than when we were dating it feels like. He started law school at this University of Utah in August and has been totally SWAMPED with homework since. He will disappear down to our basement for the entire night just reading and writing. So in turn, I have become even more lazy and gotten into even more TV shows, my latest addiction; New Girl. Luckily, I bought a pass to a dance studio and hope to get back into doing that so that my butt doesn't become permanently implanted into our couch.

Cody and I have been going to our ward in our area now. When we lived in our apartment we both really struggled getting the motivation and desire to wake up for church and I realize now that it's because we were so unattached to our ward that we just did not want to go. No one cared we were there so it was tough to show up. Our new ward however, is so completely opposite. The first week we moved into our house we had visits from the bishop, relief society, and elder's quorum. We also met another couple our age who moved in close by and had dinner with them! Not only that, but already we have callings.

Cody was called as the first counselor in the young men's. And I was called as the first counselor in the young women's. Cody seemed to be a little nervous about his calling, seeing as he never went to nor cared about young men's when he was the age of it. But he will do fantastic, I don't think there's a better man for the job! As for me, let's just say Cody got his calling before I did and I was bitter because I've always wanted to work with the young women. The bishop must have known my heart's desire. :)

I've already gone to some activities and gotten to know some of my YM girls. And already I know this calling is going to be one I'll be very attached to. Hearing stories of these girl's home lives and trials they've gone through is unbelievable to me. These girls at 15 and 16 years old (which is my age group) have parents that don't want to go to church, so they, at this young age, pack up all of their siblings and walk them all to church and serve as the parent so that their siblings can make it to church each week. Their testimonies are larger than life and it has shocked me. Who know kids this age could have such unshaken faith like this? The things these girls tolerate, the way they stand up for what they believe in to other kids at school who think differently, the way they aren't afraid to stand out as a member of the church and an example to everyone around them, it's truly touching. Being around these women twice a week will be a life changing experience for me most of all.
It doesn't help my cause much that he came from a mother who cooked amazing food all of the time. No pressure, right? I enjoy cooking, I just wouldn't say I was a master or anything. So I've picked a few cook books I love and found a few Pinterest recipes and tried some good food. Most turn out really pretty well. There have been only a couple that I have absolutely hated. Cody is so sweet though that he either really likes or pretends to like everything I try.

I've tried lately to take pictures of most of the recipes I do try. But that idea didn't start until a few weeks ago, so there are some really great meals I didn't get pictures of. But, I will make them again and take pictures soon! I also made a little dinner week board that I made little papers with meals on them so that way I can hang up during the week what I'm planning to make so Cody can see, and if I end up liking the meal, I keep the paper in a cute basket so I have more dinner ideas for later weeks. Also, in an ideal world, I would like to make my own cook book of only recipes I like to make and I'd love to put the pictures I take in with the recipes.
But, we were moving into our new home this past week PLUS we don't have internet yet, so I'm off the hook. Can I just say, our house is incredible!! First of all, having a place for the dogs to run around where we don't have to worry that the lights on the apartment below us are going to fall off their ceiling if our dog jumps one more time, is the best thing ever. They can run and play all they want and no one cares. Plus they finally have a backyard to play in! Ah, so great.

Koda didn't do so well at first moving, she get SUPER nervous and was sick the first night. But after a little Pepto Bismol and she was feeling better. Both of our dogs have spend the entire week sniffing down every corner of the house, but they both are finally starting to feel comfortable.

Our first night in the home, our swamp cooler went out. Oh, the luck of being home owners, right? But my wonderful husband was so good at buying the parts and going on the roof and spent hours fixing the darn thing! We would be the happiest people in the world to someday get central air. But we will see if we have the money for that, ever. The rest of the house has been pretty good to us. It's just the unpacking part that we are trying to figure out. The house looks great right now, but one of our bedrooms is designated as the "don't know where to put this stuff yet" room and I hate that.

My ex-missionary/boyfriend got married this week. That's super odd. It's weird to me how fast people can change. Getting married is such a huge decision. For me, it was a long and painful process to know the decision I was making was the right one. I struggled for so long learning how to move on from the ex-missionary, something that was so comfortable and known, to something unplanned and almost scary even though I knew Cody was a better fit for me, my personality, my life, and my heart. I knew regardless though, it was going to be hard to not have that long term person in my life anymore. And I still have weak moments now and again. Is it just me that holds on to things subconsciously for so long? Not love maybe, but presence at least. Heck, it took me 5 years before I stopped periodically having dreams about my first love when I was 16. It always seems like dreams are the place that either take you right to the place you are longing to be, or right to the place you are trying to get away from. For me, it's usually the second. But that's because I'm a worrier and that's evident in my dreaming. Good thing I have an amazing husband that is so attentive to all my needs and worries, even when he doesn't realize it. I know you can be happy with lots of different people in life, but I think I'm one of the extra super lucky ones who found their only soul mate. Sappy, maybe. But you'd understand if you could see into my heart.

Now, for pictures. I will update with pictures of our put together house soon, but for now enjoy totally random pictures of the last few weeks of our lives. Oh, and I found this new picture app that I'm kind of obsessed with so don't mind the over excitement of picture decorating...
Ya. We bought a house. It's a townhome really, but it's so much larger than the houses we looked at! We went looking at houses for only ONE day. This is how our day went.

The first house we saw was medocre, but we thought it was what we were going to have to get for our price range so we were satisfied with it. But the second house blew us away. It was a single family, one floor house. It was totally updated, brand new everything- carpet, cabinets, countertops, wood floor... it had the whole deal. The backyard was like an acre big too! But all weeds and was going to be a lot of work. And it was only 2 small bedrooms and 1 bathroom. It was also located near the Rose Park area which we didn't love. However, we were sure this would be the place. It was at the top of our price range, but worth the money.

The third house we saw was actually quite impressive also. It was a single family, one floor house also. It had 3 bedrooms but the rooms were even smaller and still only 1 bathroom. However, this place also had a totally updated kitchen and had a better designated area for the dining table. The backyard was quite a bit smaller and needed some work. The laundry hookup were also outside the house in a shed which was a little odd. And this house was also close to the Rose Park area. But this house had a detached garage which we though would be nice. We liked this one too.

Our realtor asked us if we found "the place" yet at the third house. We told him we really loved #2 but #3 was also great. He advised us to put offers in on both houses (both of which were at the top of our price range) and if we get both, we just pick the one we want. He said in the market, which suprisingly has changed a lot and is a definite sellers market now, both of these houses will get sold extremely fast so we needed to move fast. We were all for it and told him we wanted to look at one last place before we decided.

We come up to house #4 which is actually a townhome. It's in a townhome community that is located in Taylorsville near Redwood Road, which was a much better location for us. When we pulled in, we were a little skeptical- the townhomes were built in the 70's and we weren't sure how much we were going to like them. When we went inside, we knew instantly this was "the place". Everything inside was remodeled, brand new carpet, new paint, new cabinets, it was spotless. It had a main level, upstairs, and basement. It was 4 bedrooms, 2 bathroom, had a garage, and a backyard. We were totally sold. We put an offer in at the top of our budget and learned there were 8 other offers on the place. But because our realtor is the best ever, after some painful waiting, our offer was accepted! And even better, the appraisal on the house came back $20,000 less than we expected. The inspector came and said the house was done really well, only a few minor things to fix, but even he said we picked a winner.

So, this lovely little townhome is our home. We are still finishing up the closing things on it, but if all goes according to plan, we should be moving in the beginning of July! It's been such an exciting adventure finding our first home together and we are both so excited for this major change! I can't wait to plant flowers and have a backyard and there's even a community garden! I took way too many pictures of it before we moved because I really want to have some awesome after pictures once everything is settled. So, enjoy the next million pictures of our new home. And dogs, because I love them and can't leave them out!
It was for one of my good friends from high school. It was in a backyard and it was beautiful. It was also the first time I saw my ex-boyfriend for the first time since I got married and he got engaged. And what an adventure it was.

BACKGROUND: I dated this guy for a long time. Like four years. Then he went on a mission. I planned on waiting for him. (Ha.) Eight months before he came home, I met my now husband. Missionary came home, I stopped seeing my husband. After a few months I realized I wasn't sure if I felt the same as before his mission and the missionary claimed he also wanted to try dating others. Then he pretty much fell off the face of the planet. I again started dating my husband and then got engaged. Missionary decides to appear again in my life. I tell him I've moved on and am getting married. Missionary get engaged to someone else two months later. The end.

Flash forward to yesterday. I come to the reception and right when I walk into the backyard, there's the ex-missionary boyfriend's fiance and his sister. They see me, instantly start the giggles/whispers/stare as much as you possibly can phase that lasts all night long. Missionary (or so his name shall now be) sees me one time and heads inside the house. And doesn't come back outside the entire time I'm there. Mind you I stayed for an hour and a half just to see if he would come out. Nope, he didn't.

Flash forward again to an hour and a half after I enter the reception. Missionary's fiance and sister are still in their whispery phase. Missionary is still hiding in the house. So, I decide I've had enough. At this point I was sick of being the awkward person being talked about, so I decided to join in the talk. I went right up to the fiance and sister and said hello to the sister and introduced myself to the fiance. They seemed really caught off guard. But I was nice. I said congrats and that I was sick of avoiding this awkward situation so I wanted to say hi and let you know I was really happy for you. Seemed like a nice, honest conversation both ways.

A few seconds after I walk away, the fiance and sister run inside the house (past a giant window that everyone can see through...duh) right to the missionary and majorly freak out. I don't know. I guess I'm scary or something.

With all the history I had with Missionary, it was a little disappointing to me that he couldn't face me at all. I would have loved to tell him congratulations on getting engaged and that I was happy for him. Kind of a full closure kind of conversation you have to have with someone who you were that close with. But maybe he wasn't ready for that kind of thing. Kind of sad in my own opinion because he is supposed to be happily engaged now so he shouldn't be scared of me. I always wondered how it was going to be when I finally saw him again someday, but I have to say, I didn't see it playing out quite like this. But it is what it is and I'm glad I got that inital "first sighting" out of the way. Now my book with him is totally closed and over with.

When I was figuring out life between Missionary and my husband, it seemed to me that each time I saw my husband, he really showed me how much of a better fit he was for me. And each time I saw Missionary, it seemed as though we grew more and more apart. Yesterday was just another way of proving to me that my husband is SO the right man for me. I love him in every single way, shape and form! He thinks like me, he acts like me, we have the same beliefs and views on life, and we definitely know when it's appropriate to be silly and when to be mature. Yesterday was three months since we've been married. And it's been the best three months of my life so far! We've been so blessed with so many things, things we would have never imagined at this point. We are the luckiest newlyweds around. And I'm the luckiest wife around. Heatherhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07215351877452939400noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1527226264575238643.post-73901940753873622292013-05-24T04:41:00.000-07:002013-05-24T04:41:27.798-07:00A Utah Man I Am!Alright. It's official. Like for real this time though. We are STAYING in UTAH!! We gave the dean of ASU way too long and it never ended up working out, so we realized Utah is the best place for us for so many reasons. I'm thrilled! As much as I would have loved to spend some time outside of Utah, this means I get to keep my family, I get to keep my job, my husky won't die because of heat stroke, and one of the most exciting.. we get to buy a house!! Cody has been talking to a realtor friend and we are just starting the process!

I am starting to enjoy my job more and more. It was really scary to get used to the idea of me being the nurse in charge instead of having the nurse to report to when things got out of the norm. But I've learned a lot, and I'll just say, through many experiences of having the patient that isn't doing too hot, I feel confident that I can handle just about anything on the maternal/newborn unit. Put me on med/surg, you have a whole new set of insecurities, but for now I feel safe on my mom/baby floor. I'm excited that I get to keep working here for a while because the learning opportunites as a nurse never stop. However, I hate night shifts. I can't get over how much I hate night shifts. The hate for night shifts I have grows each time I work one. They will be the death of me.

Cody started a new job last week at a place called Onset Financial. Basically, he calls all these super rich CEO's of really big companies and tries to get them to finance big purchases for their company through his company. I know, sounds like a lot of "spam" work to me too. BUT. I'm telling you, he gets so much at his job. He get food catered for lunch three times a week (Kneaders, Chipotle, Dominos, Barbacoa, Firehouse Subs), plus he came home with new clothes already... from work! Ya, I think they definitely make up for the tough parts of the job. He seems to enjoy it there, for the most part. He will only be working until August when he starts law school. Once law school hits, he will only be a full time student!

House hunting, house hunting, I'm so excited to go house hunting! Now if only I could convince the Property Brothers to come to Utah and do a house for me, my life would be complete. But until then, enjoy some of my recent adventures with my iPhone.
Every time it gets close to a decision, something happens to drag it out again. Cody called ASU on his last day before his scholarship offer was revoked and let them know he was still waiting to talk to the dean. The receptionist, with a quick whisk of her hand, said "Oh, we will just extend your deadline two weeks." So. We are still in waiting. I'm kind of staying out of it now and trying to let things land where they fall and someday the right thing will happen.

It's been a busy week for us this week! The main event being Cody graduating from college! Yay! He graduated from the University of Utah with a Bachelor Degree in Political Science and minors in Spanish and Campaign Management. He is such a hard worker! All those nights of writing ten page papers, studying all day, and even going beyond and doing extra credit work even though he had an A seriously paid off. He will be an even better law student. Great job babe!!

We've been really enjoying the warm weather recently. Cody has spent a lot of time golfing and has really gotten good at it. I decided I wanted a little more change with my hair for the summer (oh no, I will never cut it so don't even think it) so I decided to get a little more blonde put in it. I was nervous at first but I really like it now! It's a fun little change. Also, I told Cody how much I really wanted some flowers this summer to hang on our balcony so we went and looked at a few hanging pots around town. There were some really pretty ones but I couldn't decide so we ended up going home without one. Then the next day or so when I came home from work, Cody had the most beautiful hanging flowers sitting on the counter for me waiting! It was such a wonderful surprise and I can't wait to keep them blooming this summer!

My mother got a puppy. She is the tiniest thing I have ever seen, ever. She's so small!! She is adorable too. She's a little chocolate poodle. We are poodle people at the Stam house. Everyone is still trying to think of a name for her. We thought about Hershey for a little while. It's still up in the air, I'm not really sure what fits her yet. She is so reserved and quiet. She never makes a peep. She needs a name that says silent but beautiful. We'll see I guess!

It's really unbelievable how blessed Cody and I have been in the past weeks since we got married. I think both of us have been in a little bit of awe as we have watched everything just fall into place for us. It's almost like our whole dating life together was such a rough road that now that things are going smoothly, it's shocking.

We are still waiting on schools to decided where Cody will be starting law school. That's really freaky to me considering he will be starting in just four short months. Staying in Utah that's not a big deal, but if we decide Arizona then that's quite the change we have to make in four months time. But we will make it work, whatever is the best thing. We are still waiting to talk to the Dean of ASU to discuss his scholarship options.

This last week or so has been a lot of fun at home. My work schedule worked out so that I had a lot of time to spend with Cody. We got a lot done in the apartment as far as cleaning and organizing. We just have one more trip of returning duplicate wedding gifts and we will actually have space in our apartment. And can use our second bedroom for the dogs instead of having a massive dog cage in the middle of the living room!

We also got a Dyson Animal vacuum! You wouldn't believe how much this was needed. Having a white husky that loves to lay on the couch, it's a much needed product. Highly recommended.

After Cody got rear ended by the cop, we decided the best thing for us was to trade his car in and get something different. His car got terrible gas mileage and things on it just kept breaking down. Luckily Cody's good friend works in car sales and was able to get us a really great deal. We ended up trading in the car and leasing a 2013 Volkswagon Jetta. (I'm telling you, leasing is the way to go- even if you want to buy the car. Lease it first, you will save money on it! Interested, and I will explain more to you. Leasing is not what it used to be.) It's a really great car and we are excited to have a car that gets such good gas mileage plus not have to pay for any maintenence whatsoever on it!

We went golfing on Wednesday finally. Cody has been begging me every since the weather hit 50 degrees. For me, I enjoy golfing, but I want fantastic weather for it. But I finally gave in when we were in the 60 degree weather, and we had a lot of fun. I don't think I'm too bad at it, I got my first Par on one of the holes so I'm slowly improving. It was probably only my sixth time ever golfing or so! And Cody is getting really good! He is taking a golf class right now at the U and not only is it making his golf game improve, but his obession with golf is out of control now. He talks about golf at least ten billion times a day. Good thing it's something I enjoy also.

We also decided this last week that we were going to make some good food for dinner. We actually planned out our meals and shopped for it (okay, I shopped for it) at the beginning of the week so we knew what we needed to do. I cooked pull apart chicken, BBQ pulled pork, fajitas, and just some boring old tacos so far this week. Cody also cooked sweet and sour chicken and he did great! We have a few more good ones planned for the week still to come. It's been a lot of fun and I've actually really enjoyed cooking. I hope this whole planning the whole week in advanced thing becomes some sort of tradition because it's been great.

Well, that's really all for our little update for now. Life is busy, but it's very enjoyable. Each day being married gets better and better. We are still learning how to work differently with each other.. as much as you think you know everything about that person when you get engaged and even after dating for two years, being married is different. It's wonderful different, but a whole new learning experience different. And I love every minute of it!

This whole where is Cody going to go to law school charade is wearing on me. We thought we had made a decision. Utah it was. And then, as the universe plans, everything changes. Cody, the next day, got a phone call from ASU stating they wanted to offer him $20,000 the first year and $10,000 the second year to go to their school.

Awesome. No really, it is totally awesome. It just makes the decision that much harder. Arizona as it stands still will cost just a little bit more money the first year, but it's close enough that it pulls on Cody's heart strings a lot since it's where he really wants to go.

It's where I really wanted to go also until a few days after that call. I started thinking about actually packing up and moving to Arizona. And I started freaking out. Where will we live? Will we have enough money to afford this? How much money do I have to pay my work for the contract I signed and will be breaking? Will I be able to find a job there? What do we do if I can't find a job since Cody can't work during school? How will leaving all of my family and friends behind feel? Am I going to be totally alone with knowing no one and Cody having to spend so much time at school? Ya, I'm freaking out.

I didn't realize this decision was as big of a decision as it really is. I thought it was going to be all fun and games picking where to live for the next three years. So far, it's not very fun. Some days it's put strain on Cody and I as we try to discuss logically instead of over emotionally how we both feel. He says prayers. I say prayers. We say prayers together.

We have to decide by April 30th. That's when ASU needs to know for their scholarship offer. I think my biggest fear is my job. I got my first RN job in January and had to sign a year contract. If I break it, I have to pay a whole lot of money. But even worse, I'm scared about being able to find an RN job in Arizona. Without a full year worth of experience, many people don't want to hire you. The reason I got hired here in Utah is because I worked for the same company as a CNA for many years. What do I have going for me as the newbie from a different state and very little experience?

I feel bad because I know Cody fully has his heart set on Arizona. He's been talking about living there for months and months. Now that that is a real possibility, there's nothing else on his mind. I've been excited about a lot of it too and trying to repress some of the fears I feel about it, but there's only so long I can hold those fears in.

I want to do what's best for us. What is the best school for Cody to go to? Where is the best place for us to live the first three years of our marriage? What kind of impact will both places have on our relationship, families, jobs, and lives in general? I wish I knew the answers to all of this. I guess praying and praying more is on the adgenda coming here soon.

I'm very grateful to be able to spend so much time with my husband. I love him more than I have words to say. All these huge decisions are just a reality check of being married. "Married" can be hard sometimes, but I wouldn't trade it for anything else in the world. Things will work out. We will figure out what/where is best for us. And whatever we decide, I know we will love.
Easter went a little like this for the Jenkins couple.

I currently work as a nurse on a maternity floor in the hospital and I had to work a graveyard shift the night before Easter Sunday. Being a nurse has many great perks to it, but working graveyard shifts is not one of them. I really liked them at first and thought I would like them for a while, but the recovery period after the shift is just brutal. I find myself having minor medical issues like pain under my ribcage after I work too many night shifts. Plus spending my time the next day sleeping when I want to be awake spending time with Cody instead is really hard. Luckily my job lets me do half day shifts and half night shifts so I do get my break from night shifts.

Anyways. Easter. I got home around 8:00 am and set out some an Easter basket and candy for Cody. It took him forever to leave the bedroom or bathroom and see it in the kitchen, but it was a good little surprise for him. Cody's mother was always so good about doing cute little things for Cody that you would think only little kids got from their mom, so I had to step up to the plate.

Next, we got ready for church. I know, that sounds crazy because I had just worked all through the night. But Cody and I hadn't been to church in so long because of the wedding and honeymoon and we wanted to get to our new ward. So instead of sleeping, I went to our new ward. Oh, the difference a family ward is from a single's ward. It's noisy. It's messy. And there's pretty much no one mine or Cody's age. Not to mention, that ward is FULL of terrible singers. But it's okay, I will get over it. The bishop seems really nice and it will be good for us to get into a ward where we can stay for a little bit. Sacrament went nicely, but you better believe my head was bobbing BADLY after a little while. There's only so much quiet reverence a person who has been up for 24 hours can take.

We left church after sacrament so that I didn't pass out on the spot and I came home and slept until about 4:30. Then Cody drops the law school bomb on me (which will be explained later in this post). We went to Cody's grandparent's house where we ate good food, got showered with more candy, and listened to Cody's grandma's cute Easter story presentation. Once we were done there, we went to my parents house and got even more candy. My mom is also in this cupcake making phase where she makes these ridiculously yummy candy filled cupcakes that rot your teeth instantly. So we got a second plate of those (she brought us a different plate a week ago) and came home to watch a movie together for the first time as a married couple- The Lucky One, typical chick flick that I loved and Cody made fun of. It was a great first Easter together and we had fun spending time with both of our families. It's still weird and exciting getting used to the idea that we are married, but it's the best thing to remember! Being married is by far the best thing in the world.

Law School Bomb: Originally, Cody and I had our hearts set on Cody going to law school at Arizona State and us moving to Phoenix. I think we were both pretty thrilled with the idea of wonderful weather and a much lower cost of living. But after a few different eye opening experiences, our plans have changed fast. Cody has already been accepted to the University of Utah law school and given a $14,000 scholarship for the first year. Arizona, we are still waiting to hear from. Cody has to make a decision about the Utah scholarship by Friday. After those eye opening experiences, we think we are going to stay here in Utah. We've realized in the long run it will be cheaper, I will be able to stay at my job I just started and get some solid experience as a nurse, it will be nice staying by family- especially when little babies come into the picture in a few years, and it means we can buy a townhome that has a small backyard and we can get out of a stuffy apartment with two big dogs. We still have some things to think about and plan to go to the temple and do a lot of praying, but as for now, Utah is the decision. Maybe we will get our out-of-Utah experience some time later in life. But for now, I feel very content with this decision and I think Cody does too. So my Utah friends, that means you are still stuck with the Jenkins. For now. :)

Calling him "husband" outloud is easy, but my mind still hasn't accepted this new title yet.

Him calling me "wife" sounds even more weird.

Having two big dogs when beginning a new marriage is really dumb.

Having two big dogs in an apartment on the top floor is dumb.

Having two big dogs is just plain dumb.

I love my dumb two big dogs, but wouldn't be surprised if I came home from work one day to find out that Cody had either sold or killed both of them.

Working graveyard shifts where I only get to sleep with Cody at night a few times a week is not fun.

Having a husband who is laid off from his job can be fun because he is always home when I'm home :)

Making enough money to pay all the bills without being too worried while Cody looks for a job is really nice.

Cody twitches so much when he is falling asleep that sometimes I think he's going to break into a full blown seizure.

What's his is mine...including illnesses.

Sleeping with Cody while he has a cold is the hardest thing in the world to do because the sound that comes out of his nose could blow the windows off the house.

Cody wakes up and stops snoring everytime I adjust positions in bed... so while he is sick, I seem to be adjusting every few minutes.

Apparently I moan in pain in my sleep when I am sick.

We had to buy a king size bed to fit dog #2 on the end of the bed at all times. END of the BED is the key word and a valued thing since he usually tries to come up to the head.

Cody and I freak each other out when we say the exact same RANDOM sentence at the exact same time on almost a daily basis.

Cody's nose bleeds like Niagra Falls. Finding bloody tissues around the house that he couldn't manage to make to the garbage might make me kill him early on in this marriage.

I married a man who had to ask me how to start the laundry machine AND how to start the dishwasher. He is very willing to learn though and I'm grateful.

When sorting laundry by color, Cody will throw his nice white garments on top of the dark color pile for laundry. He must be color blind.

Cody gets out of the shower and he must shake off like a dog instead of using a towel because afterwards the entire bathroom seems like it was part of the shower instead of just the tub.

Instead of coming to work and never eating because I'd rather sleep than spend time making lunch, I now come with a fully packed lunch with napkins that have love notes on them every time.

Either waking up to or coming home from work in the morning to Cody's cute messy sleepy hair, bloodshot and confused eyes, and sexy morning breath is my favorite thing in the whole world.

I love that Cody is comfortable enough now to not wake up and use mouthwash just before I get home from work early in the morning.

Even with this whole list of funny new additions to our lives, not much has changed since getting married. He still get just as excited to see me each time I see him, he still calls me "babe" instead of my name each time he talks to me- even if he's upset, he still holds my hand everywhere we go or keeps his hand on my back whenever he can't hold my hand, he STILL opens my door almost every time we get into the car, I still fall in love with him more every single day, and he still is the BEST decision I ever have or will make in my life.

Well, it's been a whirlwind but Cody and I are home from the honeymoon. The wedding was so much fun although quite stressful. It turned out really beautiful though and much better than I expected. I can't even begin to describe the temple sealing. The day went by so quickly though it felt like it was over in a blink.

Then we went on our honeymoon which was absolutely incredible! We went on a cruise that left out of Puerto Rico. We traveled to St. Thomas, Barbados, St. Lucia, St. Kitts, and St. Maarten. Then we stayed in Puerto Rico for a few more days before flying home. We were able to swim with dolphins, go snorkeling in the amazing ocean, ziplining in the jungle, to a beach where airplanes fly so low you can almost touch them, and shopping in each of the islands we visited. On the cruise ship we spend time going to the shows and comedy clubs, and Cody spent lots of time eating the ice cream. I got so sunburned one of our stops that my burn peeled twice! We took lots of pictures, it was so fun that it was really hard to come back, especially to a lovely snow storm!

Since we've been home things haven't been quite as glamorous. I had work for the first four out of five days we were home and Cody got a really bad illness. Then, of course, once Cody starts feeling a little better, his sickness spreads to me. I guess it really is "what's his is yours" after marriage. I've had this illness for a few days now and it has been terrible! We had so many plans to clean up the apartment and work on getting my name officially changed, but I guess that will have to work on that once we both get feeling better! But for now, enjoy some pictures of our honeymoon. I'll post wedding pictures once our photographer is done with them!

This last week was a big week for both Cody and I. Firstly, I was able to receive my endowments through the Jordan River temple on March 1st. It was such an amazing experience, and I am still today taking it all in. Also, Cody's mother was also able to receive her endowments the day before I went through. She has had a lot in her life that she has needed to overcome in order to make it to the temple. She worked so unbelieveably hard to be able to do the things she needed to to be worthy to be there for our wedding. And Cody and I are both so proud of her that she did it! It will be such an added blessing to be able to see her in the temple on our wedding day!

This week was filled with parties. I had a bachelorette party with some good friends first and it was so much fun. We played some funny little games that turned out to be way more funny than I'm sure they were intended to be. It was so great catching up with some friends I haven't seen in a while and visiting with ones I do see more often. Then later in the week I had two bridal showers, one with my home ward and one with family and close friends. Bridal showers are always a little awkward because they are kind of like "watch me open gifts you bought me" parties. Weird. But I'm really grateful for the gifts Cody and I received because you wouldn't believe how much we need those things. You would be embarressed to see what I have been cooking things in. Ya. It's that bad. Cody also had a little bachelor party this week with a lot of his friends. They went to dinner and went bowling and I'm sure Cody got the bachelor treatment he deserved (minus the naked women part...!). He was quite excited for this little shin dig, he was bugging me about it ALL the time! Some times I think they put so much emphasis on the bride during weddings that the groom gets left out a little bit, so I'm glad Cody got his spotlight party. Goodness knows Cody is the kind of guy that enjoys that kind of thing. That's what makes him so much fun though. He's a total goof and I love it.

We get married in T-4 days! 4 days. This engagement went by so quickly. I feel like it was yesterday we were picking out rings. (Which took me like 6 months because I seem to like everything that sparkles, which poses a problem in a really awesome jewlery store.) Speaking of rings, I got Cody's ring a few days ago. It's so different than I think both he and I thought he would have picked. But I really do love it. I think it fits really well with my ring. I think we have everything planned for the wedding. You would hope by now we do. There's still so much we need to do though. Like move all of Cody's stuff into the apartment!! Oh heck, I'm stressing myself out just thinking about it. That carribbean cruise is sounding real nice right now instead. I can't wait to get married. It's going to be my perfect fairy tale, even if everything you can think of goes wrong. As long as Cody is there, it's perfect for me. (Cheesball queen right here.) But really though, as beautiful and exciting as the whole wedding day experience is, Cody is all I'm looking to get out of it. Things are so perfect. In love and marriage, in work and my lack of school due to graduation, in family and relationships, in spirituality and the church, and everything else I could possibly think of. Life doesn't get better than right now.

(Ya, I totally hate blog posts that have no pictures also, so I promise after the wedding I will be overloading this page with so many pictures you won't know where to look first.)
